You probably didn’t know this but during my auditions for my first on-cam stint as a UAAP courtside reporter, I knew I was screwed. I’d be vying for the same spot as Maan Panganiban. Maan Panganiban the fluent, sweet, assertive, cool, tall and sexy volleyball player. There was no way I’d be reporting for my school if I was up against her. No way. And honestly, up to this day, 3 years after the infamous auditions, I’m still baffled as to why she didn’t get UP. Honestly.
Maan was like an older sister to me. She was my Mama. Being both athletes and students from UP, we hit it off immediately. Gushing about the cuties, complaining about the system, being all jeje and whatnot. Not once did I ever experience a BV Maan. Not once. I love that about you, Ma.
She was the very example of how one should take on life. Full of joy and excitement. She took on every single thing she was handed and always ended up hitting it out of the park. She was the best.
During our rookie reporter days, we worried about how we’d look in our borrowed cheerdance outfits. We skyped and started trying on our costumes and laughing and getting giddy. I’d do anything to see and hear you laugh again, Ma. Anything.
I had the honor of hosting a pep rally with her. Ma was the kind of girl who radiated this unique vibe. This ICommandYourAttention vibe that wasn’t scary or intimidating at all. She was just so charming and REAL. She said we’d host together again soon. I miss you Ma.
Strong, sexy, athletic and beautiful Maan was diagnosed with cancer. No one could believe it. Strong, sexy, athletic and beautiful Maan succumbed to cancer. Plenty people died inside. She was in each and every one of them. She gave people so many happy memories and made them feel so good about themselves.
We’re all incredibly blessed to have known, seen, heard and witnessed Maan Panganiban.
We both share the same passion. And knowing that she will never be able to hold a mic or speak infront of a camera again, just makes my journey so much sweeter. You’re with me, Mama. I’m taking you with me wherever I go. I love you so much.
